Urgent Care

When you just can't wait for an appointment, you may need to see one of our urgent care physicians. Please read the information below to get an idea of our urgent care system

What is an urgent condition?
Sprained ankles, most burns, minor wounds requiring stitches, back pain, chronic headaches, urinary tract infections, and severe cold and flu symptoms are typical examples of urgent care conditions. An urgent care condition is not life threatening, but may require prompt attention. If your condition is life threatening, call 911!

What is an emergency condition?
An emergency is a situation in which medical care is necessary to screen and stabilize a patient in cases where a person without medical training, acting reasonably, believes that an emergency condition exists. Chest pains are a common example of an emergency situation. Other common emergencies include:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Abdominal pain

Why's it important to know the difference between emergency conditions and urgent care situations?
It is important to understand the differences because if you go to an emergency room with a non-emergency condition, your insurance may not cover your expenses. On the other hand, if you are experiencing life-threatening symptoms, it is important that you are treated as quickly as possible. This usually means calling an ambulance and being taken to a nearby emergency room.

Who should I talk to in order to get more information regarding emergency and urgent care?
It is important that you talk with your primary care physician before the need for urgent or emergency treatment is needed so that you will be prepared should such a need arise. Your Primary Care Physician will help you to understand what to do in case of an emergency or urgent situation and how to make sure your insurance covers your treatment.
